As the end of the year approaches, we could not think of a better way to celebrate the victory of being able to perform 68 pediatric open heart surgeries in our state and of treating over 50 children in the pediatric oncology unit in Salvatierra Hospital, since the beginning of these two programs in 2012, than to have a special day for these very special children.
These brave little ones came from La Paz, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas and gathered in the marvelous Cabo del Sol development to enjoy a day with one of the most beautiful ocean views Baja has to offer. Volunteers from all walks came together with the goal of giving these children hope for an even brighter future and the message that they must embrace it by dreaming big.
As with many other important endeavors in life, this party was all about teamwork. We are forever grateful for the surprising response we got from the community and the wonderful group of volunteers that worked to inspire the children in the different stations that were set up for them to experience the careers and trades represented. The Navy officials from the Cabo San Lucas base showed the children one of their rescue boats and they learned about the service they do for the community at sea; the Volunteer Firefighters of Cabo San Lucas brought one of their trucks; the Federal Police let the children try the loud siren of the patrol car and taught them about accident prevention. Other stations featured the Municipal Police with its special “Pink Patrol”, nurses from Blue Net Hospitals, teachers from Delmar School, art therapy by Open Heart, plating seeds with Flora Farms, caring for our marine life by biologists from Ecoplan, trying some fun athletic activities with TriCaboKidz and the tutu-making and face-painting station, a favorite among some of the youngest girls. All of them were truly amazing, professional and passionate about delivering their message to the children.
All of the transportation logistics were provided and coordinated by DIF Los Cabos, DIF La Paz and DIF Baja California Sur. We were honored to have one amazing group of volunteers from Building Baja’s Future coordinated by Mrs. Cecilia Avalos, assisting the day of the event to make sure these children truly enjoyed what we prepared for them. Thank you for all your hard work.
And thank you to all our sponsors that made this possible, without your wonderful attitude and generosity our dream would not have become a reality.
Children had the opportunity to learn and experience all kinds of professions in a very fun environment, it certainly was a day to remember as you can see in their happy faces!
