A NEW HOME FOR LCCF's KIDS

Walsh Family Village opens with a ribbon cutting and fiesta.

A home away from home. That's what the children from Los Cabos need when they're flown to Sioux Falls for life-saving procedures at Avera McKennan. And that's exactly what they got on August 4, 2008 as doors opened to the Walsh Family Village and the new Casa de Carlitos.

The village held a special ribbon cutting on July 31, 2008, which was followed by a fiesta-themed party for those who helped make the dream of a "home away from home" a reality.

Located on the Walsh Family Village campus, the new Casa de Carlitos Welcome Center was named for the first child from the Los Cabos Children's Foundation to receive care at Avera McKennan. The 4,300 square-foot home features spaces for gathering, meditation and a caretaker suite. Two gues rooms which can be adjoined, are reserved for children from the Los Cabos Children's Foundation and their families.

The need for additional lodging near Avera McKennan was crucial. Over fifty percent of Avera McKennan patients come from out of town, which means many people are required to pay out-of-pocket for gas, lodging and other amenities.

It was this need that set the ball in motion, and it was the generous donation of Tom and Kathy Walsh that led the charge.

The entire Walsh Family Village, which consists of three buildings, is proud to be funded by donor dollars. In addition to Casa de Carlitos, Walsh Family Village also includes the Nano Nagle Inn - a guest home for patients at Avera McKennan - and a Ronald McDonald House.

2ND ANNUAL FRED DUCKETT CHALLENGE GOLF EVENT

It is with honor and excitement that the Los Cabos Children's Foundation announces the 2nd Annual Fred Duckett Challenge Golf Event that will be held at the Querencia Golf Club March 8-10, 2008. This years event is being chaired by Richard O'Neal and Larry Hendrickson. This extravaganza will again be hosted by David Feherty, Amy Grant and Vince Gill.

Last year our inaugral event netted over 1.1 million dollars for LCCF to help continue with our programs in the Los Cabos area.

Los Cabos Children's Foundation has been chosen as Querencia's "official" charity. Thanks to Charles Morgan and his team all green fees, food and beverage expenses are being donated for this event.

The Los Cabos Childrens Foundation, our many local supporting organizations and the children and families of the Los Cabos area are grateful and proud to be a part of Querencia and their wonderful team of caring people!

UPDATE ON THE CHILDREN
Currently 2 children are being treated in Sioux Falls, SD and 5 children in Culican, Mexico. 2 children are currently waiting approval for treatment at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Special Cases:

Erick- 5 yrs old will receive long awaited surgical hip repair from a devastating accident as an infant (2 months of age) when he went through the windshield.

Jazmin - 16 yrs old will receive cardiac care at the Avera McKennan Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Jazmin is another miracle that has lived this long with no cardiac intervention. This is truly a "miracle" opportunity for Jazmin.

Culican, Mexico Patients:

Only 1 short year ago these children of the Baja would have had no chance for Pediatric Oncology treatment. All 5 are now doing very well receiving the best treatment possible in Culican. By next year St. Judes and LCCF will be able to accomodate these children and others right in Los Cabos!

Future Patients:

With the loss of each child we all suffer, but we have also grown. Each child has taught us and given us the strength to further our mission. Each child has left a legacy and imprint that helping future children... through Joselyn and Dr. Ortega of La Paz we were introduced to the people of St. Judes - her life greatly impacted the future of hundreds of children.
